Misconceptions

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Our last blog discussed the client who didn’t want to spend the money to hire a lawyer despite the fact that he was really injured, had lost time from work, and had extensive medical bills. That got us to thinking about how prospective clients view hiring a lawyer. For many people, just the thought of suing someone causes distress. Over and over, we hear people tell us that they are not ” sue happy”….as if exercising your legal rights is something to be ashamed of. If you think about it, where does that idea come from ? Bingo ! The massive propaganda of the insurance industry. It seems incredible but the insurance industry has actually made seeking justice a bad thing  and something to fear. Here at Schulman  Zimmerman we try to allay those  concerns. There is nothing wrong with pursuing your legal rights…that’s why our system of justice is the envy of the world. In addition, most cases are settled out of court. Lastly, when we believe in a cause we will accept the representation on a contingent fee ( a % of the settlement ) and that assures you the right to a top flight legal team with a history of success without you paying a steep ( and, for most, unaffordable ) hourly fee. Moreover, all your litigation expenses are paid for by us….if you lose,  you owe us nothing ! The next time you worry about hiring a lawyer, call us. Your legal rights are our prime concern. You deserve a lawyer on your side

The best free advice you may ever get.

You know what really makes us angry ? When insurance companies take advantage of people who have suffered an injury or other calamity, are facing hard economic times ( that would be just about everybody ) , and the insurance representative knows you are desperate and will accept any compensation without at least checking with a lawyer about your rights. Recently, we had a situation where a client was offered $500 to settle his claim. He didn’t want to pay a lawyer but he decided to check with us anyway. After our consultation, we convinced him his case was worth substantially more than what he was offered. He followed our advice, retained us on a contingent fee ( that’s a % of the recovery, which is the way we charge for legal services ) and we went to work. The outcome ? He received a settlement of $75,000 ! It wasn’t a gift, it was fair and just payment. When our client left, we asked him whether he thought it was worth it. He smiled and said ” Absolutely ” !   Just remember….it doesn’t cost anything to ask about your rights at Schulman,  Zimmerman. It might just be one the best things you ever do.

A new name…same tradition of excellence.

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Well, it’s been 6 weeks since Allen Schulman and Brian Zimmerman joined forces to become Schulman Zimmerman & Associates.  We have been busy putting the final finishing touches on our new firm while still maintaining our high tradition of excellence on behalf of those who have no voice.  We were excited to participate in Zing in the City in cooperation with the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce in which we sponsored the incredible fireworks display and a children’s center in downtown canton.  The crowds downtown were overwhelming and appeared to be the largest downtown crowd seen yet on our famous First Fridays.  In addition, Brian and Allen have created 3 new commercials which began airing.  We have both received rave remarks, although the first commercial plays with no voice-over.  Our thought was to give the viewing audience a break from the constant noise of most commercials and instead let the viewer see our great team at work.  While Allen and Brian have joined forces in many legal matters over the years, it is a daunting task to change a name.  Things like stationery, thank you cards, our firm’s brochure, and our incredible website at lawyersonyourside.com, all required an enormous amount of work and dedication. We are pleased with the results and hope you are too.  Just as an example, our revamped website is very user-friendly and will permit you to migrate through various sections with ease.  The graphics are outstanding and, most importantly, the information conveyed will be of great benefit to anyone interested in retaining our firm.  All in all, it’s been a great adventure and we look forward to the exciting road ahead.  Despite the merger of Allen Schulman and Brian Zimmerman - into Schulman Zimmerman & Associates – we always remember who comes first and is most important to us . . . and that is you, the client.  If you should ever have any questions on any subject, please don’t hesitate to use our website or call us.  We are interested in your views and opinions.  Until next month, remember – they have lawyers to protect their rights and are on their side, you deserve a lawyer to be on your side.

Hello world!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

May 1, 2009 marked the start of an exciting new adventure.  Today two of Canton Ohio’s leading litigators officially became a team.  After the opening party on April 29 the dust cleared and the new entity took up residence in the wonderfully restored Carnegie Library building in downtown Canton.  Both Allen Schulman and Brian Zimmerman became attorneys for the same reason.  They wanted to fight for justice.  Both have been pursuing this goal along parallel routes.  Now they will do so together.  So, in a way, nothing has really changed.  Allen’s office is still in the western corner of the building and Brian is in the East.  The staffs are the same.  The focus is the same.  The capabilities are even better.  Where there was once two, there is now one, and we look forward to even better things ahead.
